Team Evil's Cassette Tape Magazine - for those with small pockets and short attention spans. Issue 1 features articles on alpacas, MF DOOM, old Neo Geo games, bad taste wolf art, John Woo, creepy robot sex, misc schlock and more. It's totally win and you should buy it so we can afford more heroin. Thxkbai.
Wolf Panda t-shirts
Wolf Panda t-shirts are finally back in stock. Everyone's favourite (fake) Panda garage band are out of retirement and appearing on quality American Apparel tees. People will stop you in the street and compliment you on your awesomess when you wear these. True story.
The Nintendo Gameboy celebrates its 20 anniversary this month. Since launching back in 1989 it has sold billions and billions of copies (or thereabouts) and is the most succesful videogame system of all time.
To celebrate this milestone, we’re going to dusk of our original brick like Gameboy, plug in Tetris and play that shit on the train all week. People will be crazy, stupid jealous.
We miss the old John Wu / Chow Yun-Fat movies from the ’80s. They just don’t make action movies like this anymore. Not in Hong Kong anyway. If you want ridiculous violence then it’s all about South Korea these days.
Anyhoo, here is a classic scene from Hardboiled, one of the most acclaimed collaborations between John Wu and Chow Yun-Fat. Basically, everyone dies…
UPDATE: ‘Embedding disabled by request’ can eat a dick. Also, we now hate Asher Roth and his record label.
Asher Roth – Lark on My Go-Kart
Asher Roth is supposed to be the next big thing in ‘white-boy rap’. We wouldn’t know, we’re prejudiced against all white rappers from the word go. That said, we do kinda like this and his flow reminds us a bit of Muph (from Muph and Plutonic). Fuck it, you can make up your own mind…
We grabbed this from the Fat Lace site and it’s incredible. DJ Yoda and Tobes mix up some late 80s / early 90s New Jack Swing and hip hop. As they described it at Fat Lace: “Think Bobby Brown cruising for chicks in a 1989 Testarossa and Mike Tyson riding shotgun with a white baby tiger on his lap.”
The Dream - Love vs Money
The best R&B album we’re heard in about a decade. This makes you want to start making babies right there and then – with whoever’s around. Best line: “I’m all up on you like a monster truck.” 5/5
Peaches – I Feel Cream
She’s still ugly and we still wouldn’t. Mind you, she’s got some outside help from Simian Mobile Disco and some other people so this sounds better than anything Peaches has done in years. Dunno, it’s ‘okay’, but the whole ‘I’m a filthy whore thing’ is getting real old. 3/5
Flo Rida – R.O.O.T.S.
We were all ready to hate on this until we realised the production was incredible (in an electronic kinda way) and Flo Rida is basically borderline retarded. He gets to keep his ghetto pass with this one. 3.5/5
Jeremy Jay – Slow Dance
Jeremy Jay may dress ridiculous but don’t let that put you off, he makes incredible ‘80s new wave alt country. Or something like that. We’re not sure what genre this is exactly, but we like it. And we don’t like much. 5/5
Fagget Fairy – Feed the Horse
Glitchy club tracks by a couple of Nordic lesbians. The music is okay, the name will get them plenty of attention. Presumably, that was the point. 3.5/5
We saw Fast and Furious 4 at ‘Knifepoint’ Shopping Centre last night. It was okay, but not a patch on Tokyo Drift. We really don’t care about Vin Diesel and his ridiculous fashion sense, we’re all about the drifting and Japanese girls here. Anyway, here’s the classic Teriyaki Boyz videoclip.
As the name implies, this is a piggy bank modelled on the old Space Invaders arcade cabinet. What makes it particularly awesome is that every time you deposit a coin you can play an actual game of Space Invaders on the LCD display. Also, it tells you how man coins your arcade cabinet contains.
It’s available online now and will run you about 6,500 Yen. That used to be about $65 but given the sad state of the Australia dollar you’re looking at more like $100 these days
This is the newest episode of Beat TV. It’s probably the best one yet. It features a bunch of people I (sort of) work with. Also, I make a cameo as police line-up guy #1.
Kari Ferrell is the best thing to happen to the Internet in the last week. If you haven’t been following the ‘hipster grifters’ adventures on gawker you can get the full story here. Enjoy.
