Team Evil's Cassette Tape Magazine - for those with small pockets and short attention spans. Issue 1 features articles on alpacas, MF DOOM, old Neo Geo games, bad taste wolf art, John Woo, creepy robot sex, misc schlock and more. It's totally win and you should buy it so we can afford more heroin. Thxkbai.
Wolf Panda t-shirts
Wolf Panda t-shirts are finally back in stock. Everyone's favourite (fake) Panda garage band are out of retirement and appearing on quality American Apparel tees. People will stop you in the street and compliment you on your awesomess when you wear these. True story.
A friend of ours, Ace, works in a video shop. Well, we assume he works in a video shop. He keeps posting images of his in-store film reviews on Facebook. It would be kinda weird if he just walked around doing that shit without an actual job…
Anyway, point being, we like the reviews. They’re full of lulz. So we asked Ace what the deal was. His response? “Listen, I had a New Year’s Eve party last night (Dec 30), and I can’t think of anything.”
In case anyone cares, this is a quick recap of ‘stuff’. Specifically, Team Evil related stuff.
Okay, first things first. The GODDAMN Cassette Tape Magazine is going to the printers on January 11. Or thereabouts. What was supposed to be a quick, cheap project turned into an EPIC NIGHTMARE… Nothing is ever easy. Anyway, a huge thank you to Fiona @ Studio Pounce for the layout and design. We’re printing 500 of the bastards. A couple of hundred are being given away free as promos. 300 limited edition versions will be available to buy for $5 cheap in late January.
Team Evil #5 is also in the works. Right now, this very moment (well once I finish writing this), I’m sub editing about five articles and emailing them to Noko for layout and design. As it currently stands, this will be the last hardcopy version of the mag. It’s also gonna be a lot trashier / weirder than the previous ones. We’re not trying to turn into Vice… Read the rest of this entry »
Still in Brisbane. Too humid to work or think. Here’s an image from Mateusz Kolek that we quite like. You can hit up his website for more illustrations (and to buy prints)… Meanwhile, even Red Bull cans the size of a baseball bat do nothing. Stupid sub tropics
Brooklyn recently hosted Blip Festival 2009. Back for its 4th year, the event celebrates being a super nerd music made with old, clapped out computers and consoles, e.g. Commodore 64, Atari 2600, Gameboy, etc. Here’s a little video of people being overly enthusiastic.
If you listened to hip hop in the early 90s The Source was compulsory reading. Back before the internets, downloadable mix CDs, ringtones and all the rest of it, it was the only way to keep up to date with the latest news, releases and legal dramas over in the US. Anyway, sometime around 1994 the bulk of the editorial staff walked out on the magazine. While various rumours swirled around, the music editor from that period, Reginald C. Dennis, has finally revealed the real story. Basically – a bunch of gangster came in and started doing a bunch of gangster shit. Read all about it here.
Okay, two very different mix CDs here for your downloading. Fly and Saucy 2 (yeah, the name sucks) features a cross section of new hip hop and R&B with electronica undertones. The track quality is all over the place but there’s some great stuff amongst the rubbish and it’s worth it for the Mark Ronson / Sam Sparro / Theophilis London collaboration – Soles of Fire. Download it here.
The Best of New Jack Swing is maybe a stretch, but DJ Henroc’s mix CD brings together some absolute classics from back in the day. Fair warning, he’s included one Colour Me Bad track, but aside from that it’s pretty good throughout – a mix of New Edition, Bobby Brown, Guy, Tony Toni Tone, Keith Sweat, SWV, BBD, etc. Download it here.
Taken from the 1985 classic, which told the story of Def Jam Records, and featured (crazy young) RUN DMC, LL Cool J, Beastie Boys, Rick Rubin, New Edition and Fat Boys. The movie, and Def Jam Records, celebrate 25 years in 2010.
