Pogo (aka, Nick Bertke) is a Western-Australian-musician-bro famous for chopping up movie soundtracks and making new tracks from the individual snippet. His Alice in Wonderland song (below) has been viewed over 4 million times and Disney even gave him a big suitcase filled with cash to work on some of their newer films.
Snow White is his latest release, but you can check out the back catalogue at his official website.
Ideally, I’d like to write a successful novel, see it optioned by Hollywood, become a blockbuster success and earn me crazy money.
I would take said money, buy a nice English Manor and fill with chesterfields, antique fox hunt paintings, moose heads and vintage lamps. Also, books. Lots and lots of books. In the meantime, there’s Book Porn…
We wrote a thing about Nagai over at Lifelounge. You can read it here. Long story short – he made ridiculous posters from 1960 to about 1980 and they’re all in art galleries these days.
Hey guy, want some free music? You’re in luck. You can grab a free Outkast mixtape here / a free Slum Village mixtape here. Both are basically ‘greatest hits’ compilations and run about 40 songs deep. You’re welcome.
John Kenn is based Denmark, works as a writer and director in children’s television and spends his free time illustrating post-it notes. Since it’s almost 2am and I have to be up for work soonish I really don’t feel like elaborating on the above. Besides, the pics are fairly self-explanatory and you read more at John Kenn’s blogspot. There’s also an interview here.
Yeah, it’s Fleetwood Mac again. Had a look around at some other bands we could feature and quickly realised this whole ‘thing’ was created as an excuse to post some classic Fleetwood Mac videos. So, yeah, here’s another one. Some late 70s, deep-in-a-drug-haze, hanging out in Californian, steez.
Osamu Tezuka is known as the ‘Godfather of Anime’ and is considered the Japanese equivalent of Walt Disney (minus the Nazi ties). While Astro Boy is his best known creation, he’s responsible for several franchises and is ‘a big deal’ anime/manga/illustration circles.
Back in 1979 he illustrated a series of fire safety posters. Here’s a small sample. More at Pink Tentacle.
Back in 1999, UK producer Luke Vibert made a little mixtape comprised of his favourite underground rappers. Largely unknown acts like Slum Village, Company Flow, Sir Menelik, etc. Anyway, Luke stashed the tape away, forgot about it, and got on with the business of being a successful electronic producer / DJ.
The same tape was recently stumbled upon and has now been released as a free download for the Bonafide Beats series. It’s like a time capsule from indie hip hop at the turn of the millennium and kinda incredible.
