Back in the mid 90s the Beastie Boys decided to launch a magazine. It was called Grand Royal, was printed on really nice stock, had a limited print run and covered the most obscure and random topics you could imagine – everything from Ramen noodles and mullets to Miami Booty Bass and ninjas. Exactly the sort of stuff you’d imagine mid 90s Beastie Boys would be into.
We had totally forgotten about the magazine’s existence (it only ran for six issues) until about 30 minutes ago… that’s a whole other story we’re not going to get into here. Suffice to say, Grand Royal was awesome. You can read more about it here. You can also grab some over priced back issues on eBay. Which you should also do. Actually, that would probably make for a cool Christmas present if you know anyone who likes to talk about paper stock in magazines…
Tokyo Dandy is a blog we like to check on a semi-regular basis to see what’s happening in Japan’s underground fashion scene. Basically, we like the photos (co-founder) Dan Bailey takes… Here are some recent examples we’ve cut / resized / pasted. They’re taken from his Disposable Lives series…

The artwork accompanying the catalogue had its own unique ‘art style’…
Oh hey, here are some car photos taken by an Austrian creative studio named Atelier Olschinsky. They’re pretty good. Not ‘best ever’, but we wanted to try a ridiculous / rhetorical headline combo to see what would happen. We’ll let you know how that works out. In the meantime… cars.
If you’ve seen Drive at the cinemas you’ll know (a) it’s a damn good movie, (b), the soundtrack is money. And while the standout track is obviouly Kavinsky’s Nightcall, College also put in a respectable effort with Hero. They’ve since uploaded an 80s electro mix to Soundcloud and it’s like an alternative soundtrack to the best car driving, foot stomping, Ryan Gosling starring movie released this year. Listen to it below and be Amaze.
Otters! They have whiskers. And they float around on their backs all day. They’re the new aspirational / cutesy animal that we need to plaster all over t-shirts, pencil cases, whatever. This is now a thing. Official.
Note to self: there’s probably an article to be written about videogame endings (and the credits they roll at the end). These images were sourced from a blog called The Videogame Trophy Room, they would probably agree with us on the article front.
When I’m not earning BIG BUCKS working a day job. I’m earning exactly ZERO dollars writing the occasional bit for Street Carange. Still, they let me write all kinds of stupid bullshit… like this. Read the rest of this entry »
